Ute Meta Bauer and Alex de Rijke appointed Deans at RCA
The Royal College of Art, London, announced the appointment of Ute Meta Bauer as Dean of Fine Art and Alex de Rijke as Dean of Architecture. Both will take office in 2012.
Since 2005 Professor Bauer has served as tenured Professor and Director of MIT’s Visual Arts Program. Prior to her appointment at MIT, Professor Bauer was for ten years Professor of Theory & Practice of Contemporary Art at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, where she also held positions as Head of the Institute for Contemporary Art, Head of the Institute of Cultural Studies and Vice Rector for International Affairs.
She will take up the postion in September 2012. During the interval period, Professor Olivier Richon will serve as Acting Dean of the School of Fine Art.

Professor de Rijke will be responsible for creating a new, enlarged School of Architecture with two new programmes – a one-year MArch course and a Master’s in Interiors, both of which will begin in Autumn 2012. He will also lead the current Master’s in Architecture (RIBA Part II) programme, formerly led by Professor Nigel Coates who left the College in July 2011.
He will take up the position in January 2012.
