The Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice invites visiting professors in Design, Graphic Design or Visual Communication

ELIA member Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice (AFA) invites visiting professors in Design, Graphic Design or Visual Communication to deliver a one-semester International Studio online course in the academic year 2020/2021 (winter semester).

About AFA Katowice

The Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice has been an independent state institution of higher education since 2001. Founded as a branch of a Wrocław institution, and later for nearly 50 years functioned as part of Poland’s oldest art university – the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. During the school’s growth, the intimate atmosphere has been successfully preserved, while a student-focused style of education has been developed and art and design have been defined as major areas of research. The Academy combines art and design, theory and practice, thinking and acting, research and education. Currently the AFA has 600 students and 100 teachers.

About the role and the course

The course should be:
  • delivered online
  • in English
  • combining workshops and lectures (up to 8 hours’ lectures out of 60 hours total).

19-23 October 2020 (30 hours)
7-11 December 2020 (30 hours)

The course is an interdisciplinary elective for students of Design, Graphic Design, Painting and Graphic Art.

Possible topics:  typography, calligraphy, type design, illustration, photography, animation, programming, generative design, narratives, product design, interactive design, information design, branding, UX, data storytelling, data journalism, editorial design, scientific illustration, visual storytelling, data viz, generative typography, new visual narratives, VR, S3D, comics and graphic novels, creative writing, interactive storytelling.

The visiting professor will have access to the G-Suite online tools, including Google Classromm and Google Meet, and will be supported by a member of the AFA academic staff.

The course content and learning outcomes will be agreed with AFA to ensure they comply with the Academy’s curriculum. On completing the one-semester course the students should obtain grades and ECTS credits.

Remuneration: PLN21,000* (PLN350/hour, ca EUR90 /hour).
