We have signed Culture Action Europe’s Manifesto calling for action in view of the EU’s ongoing MFF negotiations. ELIA wholeheartedly supports Culture Action Europe in advocating for an increased EU budget for culture in the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
President of the European Council, Charles Michel, is hoping to conclude negotiations of the 2021-2027 MFF soon. The MFF will include the long term budgets for culture, education and research, and therefore is decisive for the Creative Europe, Erasmus+ and Horizon programmes. These negotiations involve a long and complex process, which ELIA is following closely.
CAE's manifesto states that ‘A shared European future is only possible with substantial and sustainable funding for culture both across policy fields and in the framework of a specific cultural programme.’
It calls the European Council to:
Despite growing EU institutional recognition of the value of culture for Europe, so far, only minimal resources have been made available. Together with CAE we affirm that safeguarding culture requires considerable financial commitment from the EU to ensure the sustainability of the European project. You too can pledge your support and join us in signing the manifesto here. Find out more about CAE’s campaign and publications.
