Register for Barreira A+D's First International Design Conference (10-11 September)

  On the 10th and 11th of September, Valencia will be the focus of research in the field of design: during the 1st International Conference of Creativity and Innovation in Design of Barreira A + D, which has already made public its programming. Made up of activities and lectures by speakers from eleven countries on three continents, Europe, America and Asia.

Due to the great response to the call, the  programme has been configured in four panels per day, two simultaneous per session. Each of these eight  panels will focus on a field of study: reflections on design in the current socio­technological context,  design pedagogy and educational innovation, innovation and technology in fashion and the textile  industry, space design: interior design and creative approaches to urban settings, design, sustainability,  and entrepreneurship; graphic creativity: social and pedagogical uses, creative industries’ audiovisual  and multimedia technologies; and transversality in the disciplines of graphic design.   

The Conference will start on Thursday 10th, September, at ten in the morning, with an inaugural  institutional act in which the Valencian designer  Marisa Gallén, awarded with the National Design Award 2019   will participate. Then, at half past ten, a round table will take place   ‘Design Challenges. La  contribución del diseño a los grandes retos del presente’, with Nacho Lavernia, Juan Vidal, Carmen  Baselga and Héctor Serrano, prominent representatives of the developed design in the Valencian  Community, in its different aspects.  

The first Conference’s day will host the international talks:  Designers as Social Activists in the Context of Craft Clusters in India, and Impact of Mindful Space Design on Social Well­being, both presentations by Karnavati University researchers Anahita Suri and Hariesh K. Sankaran respectively;  Hybridity as a Culture of Making, by Maya Ober and Nichole Schneider, from FHNW Academy of Arts and Design in Basel, Switzerland;  El aprendizaje lúdico como proceso creativo para la enseñanza del diseño  , by Angélica Martínez Moctezuma, from the Mexican Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez;  Mental Mapping Exercises in Design Pedagogy, by Sigrun Prahl, from the German Hochschule Niederrhein, or The Line in Between Paper and Screen ­ An Analytical Reflection of the Researcher’s Own Costume Sketching Practices  , by Kirsi Manninen, representative of the Finnish Aalto University.  

Researchers and professionals such as Álex S. Ollero and Mar Ramos Rodríguez from Nebrija University, with their presentation, ¿Quién nos lo iba a decir? Taller Mutante 2020 como ejercicio de anticipación a una nueva normalidad (post­COVID­19), Alba Irina Fernández of the University of Vigo with  Nuevos paradigmas de la moda: comunicación y sostenibilidad en tiempos de COVID­19, or Carme Ortiz, David Serra and Felip Vidal from ESDAP Catalunya, with  La disciplina artística del diseño: un reto postindustrial,  will be part of the national representation of the first day of the Conference. Besides the panels on the first day there will be two invited lectures: the first one, by ADCV  Asociación de diseñadores de la Comunidad Valenciana, will be  D­Tool, una herramienta para el autodiagnóstico de las empresas en su uso del diseño.The second one,  Craftivism, Technology and Fashion, aconference on cutting­edge trends that link technology and fashion, will be presented by craftivist Zoe Romano, a leader in entrepreneurship linked to textile technology and founder of the European project WeMake, Milan.

The second day will feature the international presentations  Designing a Future ­ Tutoring Entrepreneurial Skills to Design Students, by Leonardo Springer, from ISEC Lisbon, and  El diseño de libros y la reinvención de la lectura en la era digital, by Berta Ferrer, from the University of Reading. Some of the national appearances on Friday will be:  Un bufón en la corte del rey murciélago. Iconografía del Joker de Batman a partir del estudio de los arquetipos  , by Daniel Salvador and Iván Sánchez, from UNIR;  Design and Social Responsibility: the Balance Between Ethos and Personal Identity, by Danai Delipetrou, from Barreira Arte + Diseño;  Un arte olvidado  .  El diseño gráfico y la ilustración en las primeras máquinas Arcade  , by Vicente Javier Pérez Valero, from the Miguel Hernández University;  La conciencia del desmontaje: el gesto revolucionario, by the researcher of the Universitat Politècnica de València Sergio Martín;  ¿Qué es el diseño? Y todo lo demás, by Genoveva Carrión and Miguel Santana de Bodegón Cabinet;  El lettering como herramienta expresiva de transmisión de mensajes gráficos durante la reclusión por el COVID­19  and El cartoon abstract en la divulgación académica, presentations by Begoña Yáñez Martínez, and Laura de Miguel and Nadia McGowande respectively, of UNIR, or  El cartel:  nuevos paradigmas en la era digital  , by Alfonso Ruiz Rallo and Noa Real, from the Canary University of La Laguna. Before the closing cocktail that will conclude the Conference, the invited lectures: La conexión entre ciencia y diseño. Ergonomía, antropometría y otras aportaciones del Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia al diseño industrial y de producto  by Rosa Porcar Seder, from IBV ­ Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia, and  Nuevas tecnologías y diseño como herramientas para recontextualizar la historia y la memoria, by Lily Díaz­Kommonen,  professor of New Media at one of the best European design schools such as Aalto University. 

An action-packed programme that allows us to check the first edition of Design Challenges: I International Conference of Creativity and Innovation in Design of Barreira A + D’s scope, an academic event that has the support of institutions and associations such as València World Design Capital 2022,  Asociación de  diseñadores de la Comunidad Valenciana   (ADCV) and Colegio de Interioristas de la Comunidad Valenciana (CDICV).
