Open Position: Professorship in Film and Video at Merz Akademie

28 January 2020

The Merz Akademie has an opening for a professorship for the subject of Film and Video starting in the winter semester 2020/2021.

The Merz Akademie is a not-for-profit, private University of Applied Art, Design and Media in Stuttgart, Germany. It is state recognised and fully accredited. In teaching, learning and research they have an emphasis on aesthetic experimentation, theoretical reflexivity and (artistic) research in media, but also take the teaching of professional qualifications seriously. In both the B.A. and M.A. programmes, the fields of cross-media publishing, film and video, new media and visual communication are regarded as distinct but closely related fields of study.

It is one of the strategic goals of Merz Akademie to significantly increase the proportion of women in research and teaching. Applications from women are therefore particularly welcome.

Candidates are expected to have a distinct filmic vision as well as teaching experience, with a particular interest in documentary, essayistic and/or artistic formats. Research and teaching in the field of film and video at the Merz Akademie will be carried out in consideration of the contemporary functional change of the filmic image, the implications of the digital media revolution and the current aesthetic and political challenges to time-based visual narration. Aesthetic experimentation, media reflexivity and a pronounced affinity to cultural and socio-critical theory formation are expected.

The tasks also include participation in research projects, external cooperations and in the administration of the university. Good German and English language skills are desired. The position is initially limited to two years; the goal is a permanent employment after a positive evaluation. Remuneration will be according to the TVL W2 tariff. Formal requirements of employment according to § 47 Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg apply.

The application deadline is March 13, 2020.
