In Memoriam: Dragan Klaic (1950-2011)
We are very sad to hear that Dragan Klaic, former director of Theater Instituut Nederland and past president of Culture Action Europe (then EFAH), has passed away Thursday 25 August.
Klaic (1950) was a source of inspiration to all who knew him, moving between theatre, scholarship and cultural policy, teaching in Amsterdam, Leiden, Budapast, Belgrado, Bologna and Istanbul. His advice and support have been immensely important to ELIA and to me personally.
As a natural cosmopolitan, Dragan was the living embodiment of Europe as a Cultural Project,
the title of one of his many publications.
It is a great privilege to have known Dragan and to have worked with him closely. His critical view, his knowledge, his passion, his political antenna, his involvement, his sense of humor and his friendship will be very much missed. How he succeeded to influence many of us. Goodbye strong, fragile, wise, funny, inspiring Dragan, you will live on in our thoughts and actions.
Executive Director ELIA
An open memorial gathering will take place in Felix Meritis, Amsterdam, on Sunday 4 September at noon.
