European Parliament adopted ESF+ Report

17 January 2019

Good news from the European Parliament!

The EP adopted the ESF+ Report on 16 January with a large majority. One of the three main areas that ESF+ will invest in is education, training and lifelong learning (Read more about ESF+). The European Commission already extended the basis of its education policy from the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) acronym to STEAM - with the A standing for 'the Arts' (Read ELIA and AEC's Position Paper on STEAM).

This is not only a recognition of the significance of cultural education, but it should also open up new funding opportunities for art and cultural education.

The next step will be a trilogue negotiation between the Council of the European Union, European Commission and the European Parliament Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL committee).

ELIA will keep you updated on the upcoming new developments.
