ELIA Founder Carla Delfos announces retirement from her position as Executive Director
Our Founder, Carla Delfos, will step down as Executive Director of ELIA in October 2017. Read her announcement below.
Dear colleagues, dear friends,
When I organised the founding conference of ELIA, 'Imagination and Diversity, Europe's Richness', in 1990 the 'iron curtain' was still in place and the invitation for the conference was disseminated by post.....oh boy, a lot has changed since.
I never had a career plan to become 'Executive Director of ELIA', it just happened. However, leaving ELIA as Executive Director is a carefully planned step in my career. Therefore, I would like to inform you that in October 2017 a new Executive Director will be in place. A succession group started the recruitment process and today the advertisement for my successor will be published.
My formal farewell from ELIA will be during the Biennial Conference 'Turn Mirrors' into Windows, 30 November-3 December this year in Florence, during the General Assembly meeting on 3 December. During the closing plenary of the conference on 2 December, I will give a keynote address during which I will not speak about the history of ELIA, but I will touch upon some key questions that, in my view, concern us all today.
It was a privileged and rewarding time to have founded and developed ELIA the past 26 years. It was more than a job for me, it was also my passion. I am proud of what ELIA has achieved for Higher Arts Education, proud of the recognition, the many projects, partnerships and international co -operation that we initiated, proud of all the graduates that successfully left all our institutions and are 'making a living from the arts', somewhere out there.
But.....I am not gone yet, so this is not my farewell letter. There is still a year to go and currently I am preparing the ELIA activities for the coming period. I will be ELIA's Executive Director until my successor is well-prepared and in place.
Leaving ELIA as Executive Director (October 2017) does not mean I will stop working. Closer to the date I will inform you in more detail.
I very much look forward to welcoming you all in Florence!
