The ELIA Biennial Conference 2018 in Rotterdam started yesterday with a pre-conference with interesting activities.
The activities started with the First PIE meeting, the ELIA Platform for Internationalisation. Afterwards, the program continued with the the Open Space, the Institution Tours to Codarts and Willem de Kooning Academy and the ELIA afternoon with several working groups discussing current topics like Sustainable Careers in the Arts, Arts Education, Artistic Research and Quality Assurance. In the end, Jeroen Chabot opened the Maaskant Award Exhibition and the attendants had a chance to connect and network at the Welcome Dinner at De Doelen.
Today, the ELIA Biennial Conference is officially starting with the Opening Ceremony followed by the plenary keynote from the best-selling author, Jeanette Winterson where she will set the tone by focusing on the general theme of Resilience and the City: Art, Education & Urbanism. This is followed up by the second keynote of the day from Elizabeth Giorgis & Berhanu Ashagrie. After the networking lunch, the program will continue with the departure to the Thematic Mobile Sessions which are held in different locations in the city. Art & Social Cohesion will be at the Maassilo, Art & Economy at Blue City, Art & Innovation takes place at Cafe Walhalla and Codarts Circus Arts. The last location is at WORM and TENT where the topic 'Shifting Centres, Shifting Margins' will be discussed. Last but not least, there will be a Civic Reception in the City Hall of Rotterdam where we will be welcomed by The Mayor and the evening program includes a dinner at the Laurenskerk of Rotterdam.
