A funny coincidence: love stories with robots

22 March 2010

Spike Jonze has made a new short film, I'm here, which is a love story about robots. (Thanks for the link to Koji Wakayama, who exhibited his robot garden at the NEU NOW Festival.) Now Spike probably wasn't aware of this, but something similiar has also been done a few years ago by Tom Reiersen, then a fine art student at the Oslo National Academy of Art, for an ELIA project. And to be honest with you, it's not that I don't like the new Spike Jonze but I feel that Tom did a better job with a few thousand euros from ELIA and KHiO than Spike did with a good deal more from Smirnoff.

Probably the similarities aren't large enough to sue them for infringement of copyright, but it's a great opportunity to remind people of Brutte Kretser, one of my favorites from the ...I see you compilation. Judge for yourself. Here's Tom Reiersen:

And here's the trailer from Spike Jonze:

The full film is on http://www.imheremovie.com/, but you have to be over 18 to see it because it was funded by a Wodka brand.
