6th ELIA Teachers' Academy 2013
Call for Presentations, Papers and Workshops

The European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) is pleased to announce the 6th ELIA Teachers’ Academy- Preparing the Artist of Tomorrow, which brings together lecturers from Higher Arts Education across Europe and beyond. The ELIA Teachers’ Academy will engage closely with selected graduate work presented in the NEW NOW LIVE Festival.

The 6th edition of the Teachers' Academy, hosted by the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU), will be held in Utrecht and Amsterdam, The Netherlands from the 24-26 June 2013.

To shape the content of the ELIA Teachers’ Academy 2013 we invite colleagues from ELIA member institutions from all art disciplines to consider contributing to the programme. From the submissions an international review panel will select approximately 20 presentations, papers, workshops and pecha kucha’s.

Submissions for presentations should include:
  • topic and level (BA/MA or both);
  • summary of 400 words of the specific knowledge/practice transferred;
  • structure of the presentation: paper presentation, workshop or pecha kucha;
  • contact details of the presenter/s.

Submissions will be peer reviewed by an international panel. Selection criteria will reflect theme, innovative quality, and a balanced division of regions, countries and disciplines.

Selected presenters will have free acess to the event.

The working language of the ELIA Teachers’ Academy will be English.

The ELIA Teachers’ Academy is a platform for new ideas and innovative practices for educating the next generation of artists.

The ELIA Teachers’ Academy 2013 will address the following themes:
  • Social entrepreneurship (sustainability, co-creation and new business models);
  • Digital technologies (their use and impact in teaching environments and arts practices);
  • The artist as content maker (re-imagining the craft of content production in and outside the arts).

The 3 days programme offers keynote speeches, presentations, workshops and panel discussions. The in-depth exchange of ideas at the ELIA Teachers’ Academy in Utrecht will provide a critical framework for informed discussions on selected work presented in the NEW NOW LIVE Festival in Amsterdam.

Who can participate?

Lecturers teaching in art schools who are directly involved in the delivery of theory and/or practice, artistic researchers and researchers in arts education or pedagogy who want to:
  • engage with innovative pedagogic methods on an international level;
  • gain new insights and look to future practices in educating and training artists across all art disciplines;
  • share ideas and practices with like-minded international colleagues.

The European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) is pleased to announce the 5th  NEW NOW Festival, presenting the most exciting and creative NEU artistic talent NOW emerging across Europe and beyond.

What is the NEW NOW Festival?

The NEW NOW Festival is an innovative international platform for talented graduating artists and recent graduates (within one year of graduation) – of Higher Arts Education Institutions and Universities across Europe and beyond – to present themselves to a wider international audience within a professional arts context. The Festival features the most excellent new artists now entering the professional arts arenas and is an international showcase for emerging creative talent.

From the nominated projects, a maximum of 150 projects across all the categories will be presented online at www.neunow.com, which is widely accessible to arts professionals and public alike.

A selection of projects will be presented in the NEW NOW LIVE Festival 2013 that will take place 22-26 June 2013 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The NEW NOW LIVE Festival will take place in collaboration with the ITs Festival Amsterdam.

Who can Participate?

The NEW NOW Festival is open to arts students in their final year of study and recent graduates (within one year of graduation) of Higher Arts Education Institutions across Europe and beyond, which are ELIA members, ELIA associate members or ELIA non-European members.

The call for entry to this competition is also open to institutional members of ELIA partner networks:

CILECT-International Association of Film and Television Schools

Students (as individuals or groups) are nominated, by their institution, within one of the following five broad categories:

Visual Arts
Film /Animation
