Secure your seat at our (Platform for Internationalisation ELIA) PIE Annual Meeting. There still a few places available. Register before 20 March 2020.
PIE will take place from 6-7 April at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, one of the oldest and largest Slovak institutions offering arts education through its portfolio of accredited study programmes. With their focus on international cooperation within European art and research, they are perfectly positioned to host this event entitled: “Internationalisation in the Arts: The Next Step”.
The meeting will explore the meaning of internationalisation for higher arts education through roundtable discussions, presentations and break-out sessions. Participants will discuss what is the impact of internationalisation on curriculum development and which strategies we should apply? What ethical questions are emerging and what are the consequences of current issues in higher education on our work?
PIE is aimed at heads of international offices, policymakers, deans, teachers, and other staff members who are researching or developing strategies and policies at ELIA member institutions in the field of internationalisation.

The expansion of populism in recent years has posed questions and challenges not only within the political arena but also the higher arts education sector. The changes and implications of this politically contentious phenomenon need to be discussed by society in general, especially in an artistic and creative context.
To that end, ELIA, together with ICFAD – International Council of Fine Arts Deans, invites you to participate in the ELIA-ICFAD Global Seminar, taking place from 8 – 9 June 2020 at ELISAVA Barcelona School of Design and Engineering.
The seminar will revolve around the issue of Arts in an Era of Populism. By bringing together higher arts education leaders from North America and Europe, we aim to debate how the arts, as critical interpretations of the contemporary, can act and react to the growing wave of populism.
Would you like to welcome ELIA members from all over the world to your institution? Be involved in the content development and organisation of a ground-breaking event in 2022?

What makes us KIC
The Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) for the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) sparked great interest at January’s Flipping the Odds conference.
In December 2019 ELIA published the position paper ‘Towards an ambitious innovation ecosystem for the Cultural and Creative Industries’, which emphasises how higher arts education can contribute to the success of KIC. The call to join KIC-CCIs is expected to open in 2021, closing in 2022. Find out more
Next Steps for the European Universities Initiative
The deadline for the second round of applications for the European Universities Initiative is approaching and many Higher Education institutions are working hard to submit by 26 February 2020.
Innovating and modernising the sector has become a clear priority to all. On 5 February 2020, ELIA Head of Membership Barbara Revelli joined a stakeholder consultation hosted by the DG Education to gather comment and response from the sector and feed it back to the Member States.
We recognise the European Universities Initiative is a funding opportunity of relevance to ELIA members and wish all who are applying every success with their application. Find out more
