5th ELIA Leadership Symposium
Vancouver, Canada, 7-9 December 2011

After previous conferences in London, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Zurich, the 5th ELIA Leadership Symposium will take place in Vancouver, Canada from 7-9 December 2011, hosted by Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
Its theme is Contesting Knowledge in the 21st Century.
Leaders and key decision makers from art and design institutions throughout the world are invited to participate.

EUFRAD European Forum for Research Degrees in Art and Design
Stockholm, Sweden, 27-30 September 2011

Forms of Documentation and Presentation of Artistic Research

DOCH, University of Dance and Circus and Konstnärliga Forskarskolan (the Swedish national research school in the field of arts) together with the other higher seats of learning in the arts in Stockholm are planning the second meeting of EUFRAD, the European Forum for Research Degrees in Art and Design.
EUFRAD aims to bring together 3rd cycle researchers in the arts throughout Europe. The theme of the meeting is
Forms of Documentation and Presentation of Artistic Research. The meeting takes place in the frame of the SHARE Academic Network for research in the arts.

All doctoral candidates must submit the application form no later than 15 June 2011 (the attendance of the supervisor and her/his name is notified in the same form.) Applicants will receive a letter of acceptance/rejection no later than 1 July and the application fee of 150 € is due no later than 1 August.

Releasing the Potential for Arts and Design Research in Europe
Proposals for the Future EU Research Programmes

ELIA and the SHARE Network have jointly written this paper to convince European Commission officials that Arts & Research forms part of the European research landscape and to create openings within the next generation of European Research Funding 2013 -2020, which is now being prepared.

Update on European Cultural policy

This paper is meant to update the ELIA members and board on current issues and developments in European policy relevant to higher arts education in Europe. Crucial points include the place of culture in the EU growth strategy 'Europe 2020', and the new Culture Programme 2013-2020.

Outside in - the permeable art school
Cork, Ireland, 9-10 September

PARADOX, the Fine Art European Forum is organizing the conference Outside In – The Permeable Art School in Cork, Ireland from 9-10 September.
The conference explores the position of the contemporary art school
as an institution that reaches out and influences the cultural landscape. Specific discussion groups focus on the role of the college run gallery, the responsibility of the school post graduation, the position of Fine Art if no longer at the center of the art academy, and the art school as a broker facilitating commissions.
