ELIA is thrilled to announce that last Friday, 7 April 2017, the ELIA Representative Board gathered in Amsterdam and appointed Maria Hansen as the new Executive Director.
Since 2007, Maria Hansen has been the Managing Director of the Stadsschouwburg & Philharmonie Haarlem
(Municipal Theatre & Concert Hall Philharmonic Haarlem) The Netherlands. Born in Germany and educated in Canada, Maria’s extensive experience in leadership positions in the cultural field both in the Netherlands and internationally, make her an excellent choice for the job at hand. Besides being a Member of the Executive Committee of the Board of ISPA (International Society for the Performing Arts) for several years, Maria has been the General Manager of The Netherlands Bach Society
and the Executive Director of the Opera Lyra
Ottawa in Canada.
“Maria is a trustworthy cultural leader with a great deal of experience in the arts’ world. Her international orientation will make her a great asset for ELIA. I very much look forward to working closely with her”
says Thomas D. Meier, President of the ELIA and chair of the succession committee.
The succession committee (Thomas D. Meier, ELIA President; Paula Crabtree, Vice-President; Bridget Kievits, Treasurer; Cecilie Broch Knudsen, Representative Board Member; Bogdan Iacob, (Former) Executive Group Member; Barbara Revelli, Head of Communications and Membership – ELIA Office) set up a thorough and rigorous selection process, which was endorsed by the Representative Board in April 2016. Perrett Laver
supported the committee with the candidates’ recruitment.
In October 2016, ELIA’s founding Director Carla Delfos announced her upcoming retirement after 27 years of inspirational leadership. Today Carla congratulates the newly appointed Executive Director: “I am grateful for the work done by the succession committee and feel very reassured by their choice. With much confidence, I leave ELIA in the capable hands of Maria Hansen”.
The official handover is planned for the 1st of October 2017.
“It is my honour and privilege to take on the role as Executive Director of ELIA. I believe that ELIA with its multi-disciplinary and international personality can provide great service and value to its members. I will be delighted to build on the extraordinary legacy of Carla Delfos in taking ELIA the next step into the future” says Maria Hansen.
