Europe City Culture

20 September 2017

On the occasion of ELIA founder Carla Delfos farewell, a roundtable discussion was initiated by a group of intellectuals, artists,
politicians, academics and journalists, amongst others, Hedy d’Ancona, former Minister of Welfare, Health and Culture and MEP. The roundtable critically examined and compared the state of affairs of arts education when ELIA started in 1990 and now, extrapolating to the future. The observations made during this
discussion are published in a booklet entitled Europe City Culture.

The mission of ELIA, a voice that speaks for a better understanding of
the role, value and importance of the arts and arts education in society,
is more relevant than ever. For ELIA, it is a unique, European assignment to deepen and expand this mission in the future and influence and advise policymakers.

‘New artistic expressions ask for innovative arts education’ (quote from
Europe City Culture) – evolving with the times is a cornerstone of ELIA’s
mission.
