17 November 2017

Message from Maria Hansen, ELIA Executive Director:

As you may have followed, there was a big announcement from the European Commission this week, announcing the strategic aim to establish a European Area of Education by 2025. You can find the details of that announcement here. Today, the EU heads of state will be discussing this topic as they convene in Gothenburg.
We feel that the ELIA membership exists at the heart of this new strategy that focuses on education and culture. Given that, ELIA is uniquely positioned to play a role in shaping the implementation of this strategy. Together with our colleagues at the AEC, we drew up a reaction to the EC which was released today.
ELIA and the AEC are collaborating already in a working group on arts in education and we sense a good opportunity here for that topic to finally be placed much higher on the political agenda of the EU.
You will find the letter signed by our two presidents in the attachment.
Please let me know if you have any questions. We will keep you posted on further developments.
