Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF
Susanne Stürmer studied Economics, holds a PhD in this field and has long experience in media and film. Until 2013, Susanne Stürmer was Managing Director at UFA, Germany’s largest film and TV production company. She was appointed the first part time professor at Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF in 2011, teaching new media / online production. In October 2013, she took over presidency of Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF as the first female president in the history of the school. Amongst her activities and achievements since then are the following:
Film University received university status in June 2014 and is the only film focused university in Germany. While further strengthening the very successful film development and production work, the Film University is sharpening her research profile which encompasses the three pillars art, technology and science. From September 2016, a new theory and practice based PhD in Art amends the program. In parallel a number of new and innovative teaching and research programmes and formats, also integrating external partners, were developed. Numerous organizational and institutional reforms have been realized (eg a new financial model with the state which for the first time takes into account the specificities of an art school was negotiated).
Among other responsibilities, Susanne Stürmer is member of the Board of the media industry network media.net in Berlin-Brandenburg and of the Advisory board of ZDF (largest Public broadcaster in Germany). Part of her efforts for the school is to tighten the relationship between the school and the film and media companies in Germany and worldwide.
