Video clips about languages in Europe - European Year of Intercultural Dialogue
ELIA issued a call for proposals for short videos (maximum 3 minutes) within the context of the European Commission’s promotion of multilingualism. The competition is being organised as a contribution to the 2008 European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, EYID.
ELIA will announce the results of the selection process on 13 May through email.
All students from ELIA member institutions from the 27 European Union member countries plus Norway, Iceland, Turkey and Liechtenstein could apply. Each student’s application should have been signed by a faculty member of the institution or by the supervising teacher.
What will the selected applicants receive?
- Each selected applicant will receive a 7500 € grant in order to complete their video. A maximum of 30 proposals will be selected.
- The selected films will be presented during the PRIX EUROPA Festival in Berlin (18th to 25th October 2008) and media experts will lead workshops for the selected students as well as teachers from their institutions. Travel and participation costs will be covered for the selected students and teachers.
www.prix-europa.de - A DVD compilation of all selected videos will be made and distributed by the European Commission.
Students are asked to develop an artistic proposal for a video with a maximum length of 3 minutes. The proposal should reflect Europe's linguistic diversity and the role played by different languages in intercultural dialogue in Europe.
The videos can be made using any digital and analogue technique, and all themes, styles and subject matters will be considered. We are interested in any type of video, from documentaries to fiction.
Applicants are free to interpret the theme of the competition, bearing in mind that the goal is to convey the idea that learning a language can be fun. The possibility of featuring "language ambassadors" and their personal experiences of cultural adaptation (including misunderstandings) could be cited by way of an example.
