École Supérieure des beaux-arts de Nantes Métropole
The École supérieure des beaux-arts de Nantes Métropole has recently undergone massive changes and 2010 will be an important date in its century-long history. Like most art schools in the French regions, the ESBANM recently acquired selfmanagement powers by becoming an “Etablissement public autonome” to fully participate in European harmonization efforts. It is also a major development of the teaching model designed to question issues associated to research and the relationship to territories. This process is currently at the heart of a major urban project in the city’s centre: the Quartier de la Création (Creative Arts district) on the île de Nantes. Bringing together the city’s main higher arts education institutions (l’École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Nantes, l’École supérieure des beaux-arts de Nantes Métropole, l’Université de Nantes, le Pôle des arts graphiques, l’École de design Atlantique, l’École Sciences Com) in the same urban neighbourhood is a strategy to mobilize means in favour of research, training and gateway diplomas, to consolidate international partnerships and bridges with territory development policies.
