ELIA Teachers' Academy, 1-4 July, Sofia, Bulgaria
DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF PROPOSALS WAS 8 DECEMBER 2008
Following the success of the ELIA Teachers’ Academy Barcelona in 2003, in Rotterdam in 2005 and in Brighton 2007, we are pleased to announce the 4th ELIA Teachers’ Academy in 2009 which will be hosted by the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) 1 - 4 July 2009 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event will be in the framework of artesnet Europe , the ERASMUS Network for Higher Arts Education, supported by the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme.
artesnet is the successor of the former thematic network inter}artes and continues to act as a reference for the ‘Tuning Educational Structures in Europe’ project. The network promotes projects in partnership between creative enterprise and local communities, and contributes to the 2009 European Year of Creativity, Culture and Education.
Aims
The Academy’s aim is to contribute to professional development for professors, teachers and researchers in higher arts education through participation in, and engagement with, challenging experiences and debates set in an international context. Participants will:
- Engage with innovative pedagogic and research methods at both national and international level
- Acquire new insights and new ways of thinking about current issues in higher arts education such as knowledge transfer; employability; professional practice; industry facing and flexible learning
- Go home refreshed with professional energy and new contacts with colleagues
The overarching theme of the Teachers’ Academy 2009 is ‘storytelling’. Storytelling is a way of thinking; it is a way of grasping and understanding the inner and the outer world. It is a way of connecting the facts of life with emotional or rational paradigms which evoke equally our everyday opinions and attitudes as well as our deepest moments of initiation and catharsis. Storytelling is a way of teaching and learning as old as civilisation itself. For teachers and students in the arts it offers a unique opportunity to form and re-form cultural identities and provides an emphatic way of conceptualising, communicating and developing ideas. In today’s digital world storytelling permeates online networks and virtual realities. The Teachers' Academy 2009 will explore and celebrate the many ways in which artistic storytelling integrates creativity, innovation, education and culture.
