A European League of Institutes of the Arts initiative hosted by the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles, USA, 3-5 December

Aims: ELIA and its associated partner ICFAD are committed to developing leaders in higher arts education. The symposium provided participants with an important opportunity to share with others the experiences and challenges of leadership in an international context. It brought together key decision-makers to contribute to strategic themes by confronting issues in ways which add value to new and experienced leaders, promotes new ways of thinking, and creates influential platforms for advocacy. Internationally acknowledged speakers delivered keynote presentations and personal and challenging views on the nature of leadership in the arts.

The Learning Abroad in the Arts Project announces the Quicksilver conference. A European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) project in collaboration with Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten.

The Quicksilver international conference formed the peak point of ELIA's two-year research project on arts education in Europe. The Learning Abroad in the Arts project explored international student and staff mobility in the arts. It involved quantitative research based on institutional data and student/alumni response forms gathered from arts institutions within Europe.
This project was supported by the European Cultural Foundation.

involvement of students in the implementation process of the Bologna Declaration - 2003

Higher Education and University level education is going through an unprecedented process of internationalisation in which the various national systems in Europe are going to be tied up with each other. In this 'Bologna process' initiated by the European Ministers of Education in 1999 international student mobility and transparency in degrees and qualifications are key words. But at the end of the day Higher Arts Education is not about degrees and formal qualifications, it is about nurturing talent and creativity.
