SHARE#1 Helsinki Conference

SHARE #1 Conference Helsinki will share and discuss outcomes of the project and generate a dialogue with the Artistic Research Community at large (Europe and beyond).
This is the first SHARE Annual Conference which examines the development of the doctoral level studies (3rd cycle) across all the creative arts - including design, performing arts, visual arts, architecture and film.


This two day event will provide an overview of:

• issues in growing the doctoral level for the arts across Europe
• perspectives on artistic research from beyond the European context
• progress reports and future directions for artistic research collaboration through SHARE

The conference will include keynote presentations, discussion papers, working group presentations, break-out groups, live music performances and a special reception for conference delegates on the evening of Friday 4th November.

Special guest speakers will include:

Jalal Toufic, “Toufic is one of the most active and ambitiou figures in the Arab world who—book by book—has endeavoured to sculpt a critical, theoretical language of the Arab world” 

Dr. Francis Ugiomoh, Senior Lecturer in Art History/Head of Fine Art at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria and  author of a series of pivotal critical texts on African visual arts including: “The Crises of Modernity: Art and the Definition of Cultures in Africa” (Third Text, 2007); “Photo-Logos and/or Narrative Semiotics: Which Way to Rehabilitating African Art History” (Third Text, 2006); and “Art History and ‘The Hegelian Unconscious’” (Third Text, 2005).
Dr. Ugiomoh will address aspects of visual arts research in the Nigerian context.

A/Prof. Barbara Bolt is the Associate Dean (Academic - VCA) at the Victorian College of the Arts, the University of Melbourne, Australia. Her publications include two monographs "Art Beyond Representation: The Performative Power of the Image" (IBTauris, 2004) and "Heidegger Reframed" (IBTauris, 2011). She has published on the creative arts research and is the co-editor of "Practice as Research: Approaches to Creative Arts Enquiry " (IBTauris, 2007). Bolt exhibits with Catherine Asquith Gallery in Melbourne.

Prof. Dr. Freddie Rokem,  Theatre Arts University of Tel Aviv and Docent at the Department of Theatre, at Helsinki University and as well as being author of many publications he is also author of:  "Performing History:Theatrical Representations of the Past in Contemporary Theatre" (University of Iowa Press, 2000) and "Philosophers and Thespian: Thinking Performance" (Stanford University Press, 2009).
Prof. Rokem will address the question of performing arts research in India.

The full programme will be published in September 2011, however, as places will be limited early booking is recommended.
