The Socrates Thematic Network for the Higher Arts Education Sector in Europe was active from 2004-2007. Bringing together 65 partner institutions from the European higher arts education sector, it was concerned with the impact of the Bologna process, tuning educational structures in Europe, quality assurance, innovation in learning and teaching, and professional practice. Its work was set forth from 2007-2010 by artesnetEurope, and after that by the SHARE academic network for research in the arts.

The findings of inter}artes have been collected in the handbook Tapping into the potential of Higher Arts Education in Europe.
The handbook comprises:
  1. Findings and Results: conclusions and articles on Quality Assurance and Enhancement; Tuning and Qualifications Frameworks; Innovation and Tradition and Professional Practice.
  2. Reference Documents & Toolkits: four Tuning Documents and a Reading Grid on knowledge, skills and competences for Higher Arts Education; Guidelines for Quality Assurance and Enhancement; Toolkit Student Tracking and the Emappa plan for a European Master’s course/module on Advanced Professional Practice.
  3. Case Studies and Narratives: seven innovative case studies building on distinct artistic and cultural traditions and personal reports from inter}artes partners.
The free DVD comprises audiovisual material on the case studies, the film ‘Training and tracking the student artist’, Tuning Documents translated into French and German, PP presentations and other additional materials.
